The Center Literary Cafe in Healdsburg, a monthly open mic with featured reader, in its third year. It is hosted by Healdsburg Literary Guild member, stand-up poet Batja Cates.  Batja is also a member of RoadWriters, a  reading troupe who reads from their anthology, Present at the Creation and other works, and does poetry improvisation with audience participation. (see below)

This traveling troupe of  Sonoma County poets lifts the veil on the creative process, bringing you into the fun, inspiration and risk-taking that are part of the act of writing. They read from their anthology of poems on the creation of poetry by more than 30 area poets. And they involve the audience, taking suggestions and improvising -- the ultimate literary “high wire act.”

Currently, RoadWriters include poet, novelist and playwright David Beckman; stand-up poet, author, and literary entrepreneur Batja Cates;  poet, editor and memoirist Vilma Ginzberg,  writer/editor Simon Jeremiah, and poet/publisher, Ed Coletti.

The Poetry Archive:
Where else can one hear Langston Hughes read his celebrated poem "I, Too," or, through the heavy static and distortion of an old recording, make out the voice of Alfred Tennyson reading "The Charge of the Light Brigade"? The Poetry Archive, a UK Web site, makes available online recordings of poets reading their own work. Begin your exploration at http://www.poetryarchive.org/poetryarchive/home.do.

Sixteen Rivers Press  is a shared-work, nonprofit poetry collective dedicated to providing an alternative publishing avenue for San Francisco Bay Area poets. Founded in 1999 by seven writers, the press is named for the sixteen rivers that flow into the San Francisco Bay.

We welcome new members to our press through an annual manuscript competition. New members make a three-year commitment to working for the press, during which time they become interns in the poetry publishing and take their own poetry manuscripts from the editing and book design stages right through to proofreading, printing, marketing, and distribution.

Our publishing schedule is currently filled, but we will be accepting manuscript submissions from* January 1 to March 1, 2007.

Ina Coolbrith Circle is a poetry group founded by the first Poet Laureate of California, Ina Coolbrith www.coolpoetry.org

In 1919, poet/librarian/teacher Ina Coolbrith began meeting with kindred literary spirits at her home in San Francisco. "I want," she said, "the Circle to live and be ever widening... to perpetually keep the history and literature…of California alive...."

Today, about 200 members of the Ina Coolbrith Circle continue to pursue her mission to nurture the poetry and history, past and present, of the Golden State. Our members include poets, writers, historians, artists and readers with a particular interest in books by and about Californians.
