Sept. 4, from 2-4 p.m. Three diverse Bay Area

the ongoing Poetry at Ravenswood series,
sponsored by the City of Livermore.
An Open Mic will follow a short break with refreshments, so bring an original or favorite poem to share. All three poets will have books available for purchase, and I'm sure they would be happy to sign them.

Gerald Fleming’s poetry and prose poems have appeared widely over the past 30 years. He has won numerous awards and fellowships, and between 1995 and 2000 he edited and published the literary magazine Barnabe Mountain Review, whose archives can be found at U.C. Berkeley's Bancroft Library.
His book of poems “Swimmer Climbing onto Shore” appeared from Sixteen Rivers Press in 2005, and a book of prose poems, “Night of Pure Breathing,” which appeared from Hanging Loose Press in New York this spring, has been nominated for a National Book Award.
He taught in San Francisco public schools for 37 years, and has published three books for teachers, the most recent of which is “Rain, Steam, and Speed” (Jossey-Bass/Wiley).
David Alpaugh is a well-known East Bay poet, essayist and publisher. He is one of the 100 poets whose work appears in Heyday Press’s California Poets from the Gold Rush to the Present. Journals that have published his poetry include Able Muse, The Formalist, Light, Poetry, Rattle, Wisconsin Review and Zyzzyva.
His controversial essays on “pobiz” have appeared in Poets & Writers Magazine, Mudlark, Rattle, and The Chronicle of Higher Education. The most recent, “The Mathematics of Poetry,” has stirred up animated discussion, both in journals and online. His new chapbook, “Crazy Dave Talks with The Poets,” is filled with his trademark wit and humor.
Minal Hajratwala is the author of the non-fiction book “Leaving India: My Family’s Journey from Five Villages to Five Continents (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2009), which won a Pen USA Award, an Asian American Writers Workshop Award, a Lambda Literary Award, a California Book Award, and was shortlisted for the Saroyan International Writing Prize. A Stanford graduate and former journalist with the San Jose Mercury News, she lives in San Francisco (her parents live in Pleasanton).
Minal will share selections created during her recent Fulbright fellowship in India. This body of writing includes "novelistic ecstasy, chimeric poetry, explosions at the India-Pakistan border, and more."
